We Indians have a reason to
feel proud when it comes to cricket, not only to have such a fabulous cricket
team but also India having world’s highest cricket ground, making its place in
the Guinness book of world’s records.
Dharamsala - the name of
world’s highest cricket ground is located in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. It is
situated at a level of 2,144 high above the sea level (somewhere 7000 feet
above from the sea level). Chail is a hill station, 49 km from Shimla in Himachal
Pradesh.
Details:
Dharamsala was constructed
by maharaja of Patiala Bhupinder Singh in 1893 to play cricket with his British
friends. Polo is also being played on this ground. It is surrounded with tall
huge pine and deodar trees that give it an authentic and beautiful look.
After accession to the
Indian union, maharaja of Patiala donated most of his buildings to chili military
school and government of India. The cricket ground is used as the school
playground by Chail military school. During school vacations it is also used as
polo ground. There is a well maintained basket ball court and the same cricket
ground is used for playing football as the ground also has goal posts.
In a corner of this ground,
the military school has built a tree house that raises the beauty of this
place. Nowadays, it has become an attraction of tourists.
