Meet Amir Hussain Lone, An Armless Indian Cricketer Whose Story Will
Inspire You To Chase Your Dreams
Amir Hussain Lone is a cricket
player like no other. In a sport which
requires immaculate hand-eye coordination, Lone stands out because he lost his
arms in an accident at his father’s sawmill. He was and still is a dedicated
cricket player, one who is determined to be independent, no matter what the
circumstances.
Lone hails from north Kashmir and is now the captain of
Kashmir’s Para team. He uses both his feet to bowl and his shoulders and chin
to bat. “Cricket is my passion and in the beginning, it was very
difficult for me. When I was younger, I wasn't even able to eat without my
hands,” Amir says.
He was
just 8 years old when the unfortunate incident happened at his father’s sawmill
which, ironically, manufactures cricket bats. His father had to sell the
sawmill to pay for his medical bills and rehabilitation.
After spending three years in rehabilitation, Amir enrolled in a
local school but was told by one of his teachers that education wasn’t for
disadvantaged children like him. From then on, Amir decided to never let his
disability come in between his regular life. He learnt to be self-sufficient
and became independent in his daily tasks.
Amir is
a big fan of Tendulkar and says, “I am a supporter of Sachin Tendulkar. He is
my inspiration and I want to play like him. My dream is to play for the
national team.”
