The Kanva Dynasty is also known as Kanvayana dynasty. The founder of Kanva Dynasty was Vasudeva Kanva, who was a minister in the court of Sunga Empire. He tricked Devabhuti Sunga with the help of slave's daughter, killed the king and established Kanva Dynasty in 75 BCE (916 BCE as per recent translations.)
According to puranas after Devabhuti dethroned, Vasudeva allowed Sunga’s to rule corner of their former dominions. Kanva rulers administered Magadha. Kanva Dynasty was ruled only for shorter period. It was established in 75 BCE (916 BCE and ended in 30 BCE (830 BCE as per recent translations.)

Vasudeva Kanva was a Brahmin king. He was originally an Amatya (minister) of last Shunga ruler Devabhuti. He worships Lord Vishnu. As he is Brahmin most of the taxes were utilized for Temples. He was one of the famous patrons of arts. During his times there were foreign attacks from Indo-Greeks. However, he managed to keep his throne.
Vasudeva was succeeded by Bhumimitra. Later Narayana succeeded the throne.
The last ruler of Kanva Dynasty was Susarman. He was dethroned by Simuka. Simuka established Satavahana Dynasty by ending Kanva Dynasty.
