How many of you watch horror movies..?If you watch, then you must be aware of the scene in which birds start to act crazy. All of a sudden there will be a lot of birds flying over a haunted place and then they will either attack our victims in the movie or will start to smash themselves dead with glass windows of a house. Does this scene happen in real? Yes, it happens. Not just over a house or a particular spot but over an entire village. Not once or twice but every day for three hours for three months in a year. Sounds unbelievable, right? But believe it.

Now you might be thinking of the place where does this incident occur. What if I was to tell you that it occurs in India? Yes, it happens in India in Jatinga which is a small village in the state of assam. This village is located around 330 kms south of guwahati. It has come to be known as the valley of death for birds.

       

Every year, during the months between September and November or the late monsoon,it is said that several local and migratory birds flock to this village after sunset around 7 to 10 pm and kill themselves and search lights. There is a 1.5 kms stretch of land in this village where this peculiar phenomenon occurs. This is a unique phenomenon which is taking place every year and has caught the attention of scientists around the world as well as the tourists.

For many years ,the locals thought that evil spirits present I the skies above were the ones who brought down these birds. But the new generation feels this as a blessing of god. This bird mystery has converted the small jatinga village in assam to a renowed tourist destination in recent years.

There are some ornithologists who has focused on this phenomenon and dedicated their time in research of this unanatural phenomenon. They have found that there are many species of local birds such as kingfishers, pond heron, black bittern, tiger bittern etc. are subjected to this strange behavior. 

Their studies has also revealed that the birds commit suicide in jatinga during the late monsoon as most of the water bodies in assam are flooded by that time by which the birds lost their natural habitat. So they migrate to Jatinga.

Real reasons behind the jatinga bird’s suicide phenomenon cannot be confirmed as there are various different reasons cited by the researches.but jatinga is not the only place where this weird thing happens. There are some other places like Phillippines, Malaysia and other state of India, Mizoram.
